“If it looks to good to be true, then it probably is.”

In the painting and remodeling industry, there are many key examples of this expression:

  • Companies that promise 2 coats of paint on the exterior for half the cost of competitors. Simply put, it does not exist. A paint company will say they’ll provide a two-coat coverage, and when asked how it’s applied, answer: we spray in one direction and then spray in the other direction. It deceptively might sound like a double coat, however it doesn’t give you the assurance of a complete job, which would including going around the entire house twice.
  • Choosing 2 cm of quartz over 3 cm of quartz. One is much cheaper, but is thin and will crack easily. The other is worth the price paid and will increase a home’s value.
  • Recess lighting can be expensive to install. Why would you get a recess light that has only one brightness setting when you could purchase, at a slightly greater price, lighting that has 5 settings?
  • It is easier to order plumbing parts online, right? Not really. Many times, customers will order something online, and when we start to unpack it, we’ll find parts missing or ones that fit incorrectly. The part then needs to be returned which complicates things and can be a hassle. A plumber will also tell you, please never order online and never order foreign fixtures.
